I noticed there was a mention of doing cupcakes instead of cake, b/c they're easier to serve. I so agree with this! I was at a baby shower awhile back, and watched as one of the hostess' cut the cake, then licked her fingers, touched the cake, rinse and repeat.
I know I have a lot of little idiosyncrasies, but that totally grossed me out. I had no cake!
Re: S/O of shower cake
I am actually very much against licking fingers, period. LOL I mean it grosses me out to see people do it even if they're just touching their own food.

Mine too. All the time.
Yuck.
I still prefer cake to cupcakes though....something about the crust to cake ratio that just makes me not a cupcake fan.
Eeew! My MIL and Grandmother-inlaw both lick their fingers while cooking and serving. They even lick the serving spoon sometimes....yea. It's hard because I don't want to be completely rude, but I also don't want their spit on my food...
I love cupcakes and prefer it over cake in both taste and ease. I went to a shower last summer where a huge two tier cake sat out for too long and then they asked me to help cut and plate it. It was disastrous. People just got clumps of cake. It made me really angry lol.
