Moms with kids in daycare...Q for you...

At the end of the day, are classrooms consolidated?  If so, do they go to the same room with the same teachers every day?

Several weeks ago, DS' daycare started to consolidate classrooms around 5pm (they are open until 6:30). I pick up around 6. Every day DS could be in any one of 3 or 4 classrooms and with different teachers every night. From a business standpoint, I understand why the classrooms are combined (to minimize what they pay out to teachers). But I am getting frusturated with the lack of consistent care.  This could be normal, but I have no clue.

Re: Moms with kids in daycare...Q for you...

  • it's pretty normal.

at our daycare they are usually in a certain room together... but sometimes it changes if that teacher has to leave early for some reason - another teacher takes them in her room, etc. No biggie to me.  The kids love getting to play in different rooms.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • Yes they do. However, they only combine the 3 and 4 year old class together and only the babies/toddlers together. They don't mix the babies or toddlers w/the older kids.

  • Yes, they combine.  She is always in the same room with the same teacher, if not, the person at the desk knows where your child is so you aren't going to several rooms.

New toys are fun for kids. But it's the care for DS that has me concerned. He has regular 5:30pm-ish BMs (and hates being in poopy diapers and is very vocal about it).  3-4 days/week I pick him up with a soiled diaper. I have talked to the several teachers about this but I either get a denial response orma response they they couldn't change him because his supplies are in another room and they'd be out of ratio if they get them.

THAT is not OK.  If our guys need a diaper change they have a floater come get one of them and bring them to their room to change... it's very rare we ever pick up the boys with a poop, and if we do its bc it just happened.

that's unacceptable. I'd be complaining about that.

  • They always consolidated at night, I think like after 5 in daycare, maybe after 4 in preschool when he did aftercare as well. Daycare was always consistent - either everyone was in the ball room or everyone was on the playground. In preschool they had a choice - outside or library, or playroom or library, or gym or library - so I had to look for him (but everyone always knew where every kid was so I didn't have to hunt for him). It was always the same teachers working late (for the most part) and they generally worked the same rooms every day. I think, personally, that it's more important that he knows everyone so it wouldn't bother me much. Except of course, you just want to go home and not hunt for your kid, so that's annoying!

  • They consolidate (but the baby room does not) but it is always into the same room. They occasionally change the pattern and start moving to a different room but then that is the new spot they go. Make sense?

On a rare occasion I have to ask where he is but that is generally if he is the last kid and therefore helping a teacher close up other rooms.

They don't move older kids into the baby room unless it is siblings. So they will move M to S's room only if they are the last two kids in both rooms.

ETA: When M was still in pullups they'd call the director or another teacher if he needed a change. I'd complain about him not being changed.

  • Yes - they consolidate... in the morning as kids are getting dropped off and also at the end of the day. In the afternoons for pickup they're usually in the multipurpose room - but when she's in a preschool class it could be one of a few different rooms. There are a bunch of teachers there - and even though she has "her" classroom teachers, they do rotate based on need. I think it's good to get her acclimated and comfortable wth the teachers there - I never had an issue with it. And sometimes it's a 'treat' for her to have a teacher in there she doesn't usually see - she gets excited.

Regular teacher or not - I've never had this issue. If taking 1 kid out of the class with the teacher will screw up the ratio they either get a 'floater' or will take a few kids back to the classroom with them,

Our place does the same thing.

  • yup.  i never knew where i was going to find grace when she was in daycare.  NBD as long as the numbers are in check.

  • Rooms consolidate after 5pm except infants.  My boys are sadly either the last to be picked up or the second to last.  The other 2 kids are also brothers.  So at that point they consolidate even more.  1 infant, 1 toddler and 2 pre-k3 kids are all together but they are also siblings.

The diaper thing in inexcusable.  They always put a diaper in Andrew's backpack when they go upstairs just in case he needs to be changed.
