Dumb question weights/weight gain

I know the answer, but I wanted to get your opinion anyway.

Two weeks ago I began lifting weights regularly. Pretty much 4 or 5 days a week, one hour at a time, concentrating in small/large muscles (tris/back, chest/bis, legs/shoulders, abs every day etc.). I pyramid my weight and it is never too heavy, 5 sets of 15. This is in addition to my running 3 or 4 days a week.

I'm eating a bit more, but nothing crazy and certainly not bad foods, but I have been hungrier, so I am trying to eat more protein after the lifting.

I have put on FIVE pounds in two weeks. No, my clothes are not looser. I know my body has a tendency to hold water when I change things up/push myself so I am assuming this is the issue. Plus I had PhoStick out tongue

Tell me I didn't really gain 5 pounds. Please.

Re: Dumb question weights/weight gain

  • Did you eat 17,500 calories extra in those two weeks?  Probably not!  It could be anything from water weight, lack of sleep, stress or just your body adjusting to your new routine.

Don't worry too much about it and just continue to treat your body well.

  • I wouldn't worry about it too much, but are you doing cardio or boot camp/ cross fit type work outs?  I'd add in at least a day or two of cardio.

More cardio? I tend to do 3-4 days of running (4/4/6/8-10 miles)

Ah, sorry, I thought you had ditched the cardio for weights.

  • I bet it's temporary and you'll be back down in a couple weeks. If you aren't, I'd take a closer look and see if you need to eat more b/c you're still breastfeeding right?  It is possible if you are hungrier but trying to control it. As I've been running more and been doing harder workouts my weight loss stopped completely and I'm pretty sure it's b/c I've had less time to eat.

  • Yep still nursing.

I will give it more time. I find that I am hungrier than a beast so I may need a bit more.
