Moms and/or HCPs

My 18 month old has been treated for pink eye twice in the last 3 weeks.  The first time she finished her antibiotics and it came back in about 2-3 days.  The second time she took the full course of antibiotics and she was good for about a week.  She woke up with her eye all goopy again today.

It has always just been in her right eye.   It has never spread to her left eye, to us or to anyone at day care.  She was going to day care for 3-4 days before we realized that it was an infection the first time and not just a cold and still no one got it. I thought pink eye was super contagious.

Is it possible that it isn't pink eye but some other kind of eye infection and she's being misdiagnosed?

Re: Moms and/or HCPs

  • Sounds like that is a possibility. I've had pink eye twice since DS has been born, and it has never spread to anyone else, including him. So it is possible for pink eye to not spread, but if that's the case, they need to up the medicine for her, because it's obviously not kicking it.

  • It could be how she drains because this is my DD exactly! Did they check her ears for fluid? Does she have a runny nose? She could have a cold and the way she is draining is through her eye. She could be giving it to herself over and over again my wiping her nose with her hand and then rubbing her eyes...I'd take her to the pedi and see if they have something else besides drops. I know a few times we had duel ear infection and pink eye and they just gave us oral antibiotics and it took care of the issue quickly.
  • It could be viral, so the antibiotics are helping her fight back her cold, but then when they are gone, the virus is flaring again, maybe?

Are you united with the CCOKCs?

  • I agree with Annie.    With my DD - when she got pink eye - the drops always cleared it right up and they have worked on me as well.  My DH has only caught it once from us.   I think some people are just more susceptible than others.   With my DS getting it last week though - his was so bad we had to do both an oral antibiotic and the drops to clear it up.

    Hope it goes away soon!
