I caught up on this week's episode last night. I have 2 main thoughts:
1. NO MORE GIMMICKS. Hopefully it will end with the arrival of the Masters next week, because I would like to think that the show would not have well-regarded chefs (literally) jumping through hoops. Also, I kept thinking this week that Bev's long puffy coat was very impractical for winter sports.
2. Do we know how much time elapsed between last week's ep and this one? Did episodes start airing during that time? It seems like Sarah went home and thought, "Wow, America is going to think I'm a condescending a-hole" and tried to change her tone about Bev without actually apologizing for anything she'd done. I'm thinking of her "Bev's a fighter" type statements in particular. And when Bev got eliminated and Sarah hugged her and was all, "Thank you so much for cooking with me," or whatever it was she said.
Re: Top Chef
I HATED, HATED, HATED this week's episode. I always like the end because it usually comes down to them cooking without too many stipulations. The whole cooking in the moving gondola, picking through the ice, and skiing to the guns to shoot their ingredients made me stabby. HOW does skiing have ANYTHING to do with cooking?!
I do think Sarah is a bit of a biitch but I think a lot of it had to do with the editing. There was one part on this week's episode where Bev was talking and then Sarah interrupts her and then all conversation stops. You can tell by the background that it was pieced together and that even though Sarah might have interrupted her, I have a feeling Bev got to finish what she wanted to say.
Lindsey has the worst haircuts ever.
I kept screaming at my tv last night "JUST LET THEM COOK!!!" This season has really annoyed me with all of the non-cooking related activities that they've had to do. It's annoying to watch, and the food is not as good when they have to do that sh!t.
I don't care if Sarah is trying to be nicer, I still think she's a huge ***, and I was sad that Bev had to go home. I really want Paul to win now.

THe gimmicks were annoying.
I'm also annoyed that next week isn't the final. That it's yet ANOTHER elimination round.
There is always a span of time between the main show and the finals. A few weeks at least.
I do think Sarah did a little thinking, but I also put a LOT of this on the editing. Most of the chefs who worked w/ Bev had issues w/ her - but Sarah/Lindsay are probably who they focused on because they all made it to the end, so they wanted to amp the drama up.

I don't recall cross country skiing being that difficult....?
I'm totally rooting for Paul.

The gimmicks usually annoy me, but I kind of liked that there were three different challenges in this episode. I always feel like the elimination challenge loses momentum.
I feel rather certain that Padma hates Sarah (and actually everyone who was an a-hole to Bev). And I hope that comes out at the reunion. I don't think Sarah made herself look any better in this episode - I mean she's shown privately saying, multiple times, how much it bothered her that she would have to compete against Bev, didn't want to cook with her, etc.
And then just a big fat two-faced lie at the very end ("I'm so glad we got to cook together")?? No you're not! Can you at least not lie? Couldn't you just say, "well done - you did great today" or something? She is a big biitch.
I was actually surprised Bev got eliminated - she had a really good day. Seemed like she did really well in each challenge, just not the best.
I also tend to take cues from the hosts - if they pick up on a-hole behavior and seem to take one side over the other (and I get that from Padma), I tend to trust that. Some people are just bullying a-holes...Heather and Sarah, blech. They're the types that get uglier every time they open their mouths....
I had hoped Bev would do better once she had returned from the Last Chance Kitchen, so I am know pulling for Paul because the other two women make me want to butcher something.
I think that Sarah is really mean, she had an attitude from the beginning and it showed in that one episode where she got heatstroke and got mad at the boys for not allowing her to help when she returned. It definitely illustrated it wasn't just towards Bev.
And Grayson called out Lindsey during the episode with Restaurant Wars by telling her that her food cooking method she had Bev perform was probably incorrect thus the fish didn't taste right and she would have gone home if their team had lost.
I don't think Sarah was an overall nice person on the show, but I do think some editing was done to amp up her behavior.
I know! She cried because she
's Beverly! And she does not
Sarah.
I yelled at the screen when that happened. Come on, Padma. Keep it together.
I actually can't imagine what it would have been like if Heather had continued on. I don't think she needed any editing at all - she was just out and out awful.

I couldn't stand Bev. It's incorrect to say that the men were ok with her - her teammates from the BBQ thought she was a flake and not an asset to the team at all. Women had a problem with her b/c every time she was on a team with them, she concentrated solely on her own dish and contributed ZERO to the team. In restaurant wars you can say that was due to poor planning (having Bev and Lindsay both do the main course when Lindsay was also in the front of the house), but while people may have thought she was a good COOK, nobody wanted her on the team.
I wanted Aisha to come back as the Last Chance chef, and the way she lost to Bev (they had to switch 1/2 way through, Bev had done almost no prep, so Aisha had to prep and cook in the time remaining) was completely bogus.
Incorrect! So THERE!
My retention of a season's worth details can't compete here, but I can say pretty confidently that the snatchiness directed at her was way out of proportion with whatever kitchen sins she might have committed.
I totally agree. You can't be made to look like an ass if you don't act like an ass. Past all of the personality conflicts, team Bev or not team Bev, I remember when Top Chef used to be about FOOD. Just FOOD. I think they're trying to compensate for the lack of talent this year by making them do all they fuckingretarded challenges. I've been a Top Chef nerd since Episode 1 Season 1, and this season makes me want to cry it's so awful. Another elimination challenge? Get real. Seriously. I think even Padma, Tom and Gail are slightly embarrased by how this season has played out.
Totally agree about the reunion show, I am looking forward to the inevitable lost footage they will show of the heifer sisters, Sarah, Heather and Lindsay. I would be so embarassed to know these girls IRL and how they have made themselves out to be on national TV. I am shamelessly hoping there is some knock down, drag out good drama to be had.
I think everyone in America understands Paul will win, even Paul knows this. This is why he helped the girls with the ice challenge. I'm glad they showed the clip of him explaining why he did it too, almost like an F-You to the show for the stupid shyt they've had to do this season.
