I had a Philips that wasn't originally region-free, but you could just find a code on the Internet to type into the remote and make it region-free. We also did this with a Philips DVD player at work. Easy peasy! And before we needed it to be region-free, we were happy with our hilips DVD player in general, and it got lots of use!

This all the way! I?m on my second one (the laser crapped out in the first one, but what do you expect for 40 Euros...) and it works fine. I just looked it up on Amazon after I bought it in the store and got the instructions. Took all of 30 seconds to do it.

Stay away from Sony, though. It?s virtually impossible to find hacks for those, but not a problem for Phillips.

Find the code FIRST then buy the DVD player.  

 

We tried this with our last player and it was crap.  So we registered for a multi- regional player for our wedding.
