Why does my cat keep chewing on things?
I have a 10 year old male cat who loves to chew on a couple things. One of these things are rugs. We seriously can't have any rugs down on the floor because he pulls them apart. The other thing he loves to chew on is tulle. My daughters have some tulle dressup things that, if left out, he would gnaw on for hours.
I don't get it, why in the world might he be drawn to these two things? His sister has some quirks, but at least they aren't destructive. Any suggestions on curbing his chewing? Or is it just a quirk we will deal with forever...
Re: Why does my cat keep chewing on things?
Cats are weird. You can try that spray that tastes awful to stop the chewing. You can try providing him with appropriate chew toys and when you find him chewing redirect him.
I have a cat that chews plastic bags (so dangerous so we do our best to keep them away from her).
I have a chewer. From what I've been told, it's related to weaning issues and there's really not a lot you can do about it except keep the targets out of reach and be watchful for obstructions.
Just be thankful yours only likes fabric. Mine likes electrical cords, which are a nightmare to keep away from him. He also likes leather and anything with a string (pants, shoes, blinds, etc).
This is sort of what I was hoping to NOT hear, but what I suspected. We had a cat growing up who slept in my brother's bed every night. There were mornings where he'd wake up with his shirt soaked because she "nursed" all night using his shirt. Super gross and endearing all at the same time. Plus, she was a sweetheart so you had to just shrug it off.

We have to give our one cat cardboard boxes to chew up. He seriously rips pieces of cardboard and flings them across the room. Without his boxes he's destructive and chews thinks he needs to stay away from. He ate 1/4 of broom bristles once
I would think about what he likes about those materials and get appropriate toys or add more interactive play.
