Vent - I'm so sick of dealing with shitty customer service

You all know I've had it with Continental.

The ILs health insurance company is next on the *** list. In NJ, when someone dies their spouse automatically inherits everything/becomes the executor of the estate unless they have a will that says otherwise. The health insurance company, for whatever reason, doesn't accept this and won't discuss any of FIL's medical bills with MIL because they don't consider her the legal executor - yet they are holding her respondsible fo the bills. WTF! They told her she has to go to court and get a judge to name her executor before they discuss anything with her (which takes time and money). After M ripped them a new one, they said they could talk to her if they got a copy of the will and his death certificate (because, you know, they can't tell from the bills that he really died) - and the paperwork would then take 45-60 days. Really?!

So, I go to the bank after work to get their wills out of our safety deposit box - we've been holding onto them since before we were married because if anything happened to both of them, M becomes the executor. Well, when we rented the box we did a self serve one - I go into the vault and do my business and when I come out they jumped all over me. Apparently, their policy has changed since the last time I needed something out of the box and now you have to sign a log when you access your box and they'd need me to do a signature card and yadda yadda. So I said fine, whatever, what do I have to sign. They then proceed to tell me that my name isn't on our JOINT box, only M's is so they can't let me have access. I was like, it's a joint box tied to a joint account and I have the key. They're like sorry, you'll have to have your husband come in and sign paperwork to give you access. It kills me. We signed up for the box together. At that point I was just like, have a nice day and walked out. I'm so glad I tucked the wills and the keys into my purse before I walked out of the vault so it didn't look like I took anything.

I'm so glad I have book club tonight. I think I'm going to have M drive me over so I can drink a whole bottle of wine while I'm there. GAH.

  • I'm so sorry that everything is turning out to be such a hassle. Legal proceedings can be such a pain! Sad

  • All of that just completely sucks. Kudos to you for keeping your cool at the bank though. I am pretty sure I would have raised hell over that crap.

    * hugs* enjoy your book club tonight!

  • How awful. I hope you (and M's family) can get everything straight soon.

    Hope your wine was tasty.

  • Ugh, I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I remember when, shortly after my Dad passed away and my Mom was trying to get everything in order and sell their house, she had to keep his death certificate with her for a bunch of different things to have 'proof' that he was actually dead... talk about rubbing salt in a wound. As if people don't have enough grief to sort through without all the added paperwork.

  • Ugh, seriously, I don't know how you aren't blowing up and ripping all these crappy customer service people new ones. I think I would have had a major blow up by now if I were you. That is completely ridiculous! I'm so sorry you are having to deal with all this.

  • It's too bad that they can't have a little compassion. After all, customer service are the ones that are supposed to offer understanding.
