Physical vs. Emotional Attraction
When my STBXH and I first met ... we were attracted to each other on what seemed to be physical attraction... obviously, we lacked an emotional attraction over time and to make a long story short, here we are.
I'd like to get some thoughts/opinions on the value of a physical attraction vs. an emotional attraction.
Ive met guys before where I am 110% emotionally attracted to them, but physically its just ehh not much of an attraction (not my style, features aren't attractive to me, etc.). Would something like that ever really work?
What do you gals think?
Re: Physical vs. Emotional Attraction
According to Barbara DeAngelis in "Are you the one for me?" (or similar title), both are important. Chemistry is what gets you through the bad times (and there will be bad times / downs in any relationship).
I think that if you meet some guy who seems really great but you're not feeling it chemistry-wise, give him a try for a few dates and see if the chemistry develops, but if it doesn't after a while you shouldn't continue.
I think that's a major problem with internet dating - you don't know someone well enough to decide if you should go out with them again. Also, don't sleep with someone right away b/c that is only a physical attraction and it clouds your judgement.
No, I really think you need both. My XBF I wasn't really physically attracted to but felt a strong emotional connection. At times I felt like we were more roommates that BF/GF.
My current SO I am attracted to him on an emotional and physical level. The physical attraction keeps things exciting and the emotional attraction is what leads to a strong committed relationship.
When dating I don't think you can make snap decisions. My first date with BF was okay, nothing that wowed me but I agreed to go out with him again. The second date knocked me flat on my a@@. Later he told me that he was super nervous on our first date because he thought I was intimidating and out of his league. However, if by the second date you are not really feeling it, then cut it loose and move on!
