Grand Cayman- recommendations or tips?

So excited!  We just booked a trip to Grand Cayman, leaving the end of March and staying at the Marriott.  If you have been before, do you have any recommendations or tips for us?  We will be about 25 weeks pregnant so not looking for any extreme activities (zip lining, jet/water skiing).  Also, any restaurants that we should try?  TIA!

Re: Grand Cayman- recommendations or tips?

  • Not sure you'll be up for a snorkeling/string ray trip but if so, they are my favorite thing to do in Grand Cayman.  Fat Fish Tours is the best, but I believe their tours are only jet ski or private charter boat.  We've also been with Captain Marvins on a group tour boat and it was pretty nice.

My absolute must for restaurants is Casanova by the Sea.  We had our wedding reception there and usually eat there multiple times for dinner each trip.  Deckers / Abacus (same owner) are also tasty. We love Eats for breakfast or a quick lunch/dinner.

  • Thanks Misshouston-  I am definitely up for the sting ray experience.  I've been reading about it and can't wait.  Although my belly will be bigger, I'm staying pretty active and figure if grandmas and young kids can do it, I can too.  And looking forward to trying out those restaurants.

    Keep the suggestions coming!

  • I am from Cayman.  It is all about the beach - you will be on 7 mile so that is easy - you can walk along the beach, there are beach bars to eat at etc.  Are you renting a car?  Drive up to Rum Point/East End.  It is about 45 minutes along the water away from town and the more touristy strip - the concierge will tell you how to get there.  Hang out for the day, have lunch, watch the sun set.

Do stuff on the water: Stingray City, snorkeling, sunset catamaran sails through Red Sail.

Restaurants: The Brasserie, Morgan's Harbor, Calypso Grill - All three either have their own fish boats or buy directly from local fisherman.  The Brasserie has it's own garden adjacent to the restaurant .  Cassanova's, Decker's, Michael's Genuine and Ortanique.  Luca has an extensive Sunday brunch.  I don't know if you are an adventurous eater, or up for trying local food, but Vivene's Kitchen in East End is pretty amazing, it is an older woman who serves local food out of her kitchen in her home overlooking the water.  It is peaceful, the food is delicious and it is completely off the beaten path.
