Periodontal issue

Any one ever have "pocketing". My husband was told he has this.  He thought it was a toothache from a cavity but it's not the tooth   Dentist said its pocketing and referred him to a periodontist.

Re: Periodontal issue

  • He may have periodontal disease, which is loss of the structures (bone and connective tissues) that support the tooth in the socket.  The periodontist will be able to diagnose and give him treatment options, likely starting with scaling and root planing("deep cleaning").  Tell him to keep the area clean, even if it's sore or bleeds.  Good luck to him and let me know if you have any questions- I'm a dental hygienist.
