  • Every nanny is going to have to leave sometime, so while it's hard, I wouldn't let it color your decision.

As a Mom, the more notice I have the better.  Finding good childcare is HARD!

I should pick your brain sometime about nanny stuff.  We'll probably need one next fall when I go back to work, and I don't really know what normal nanny situations look like.  (like do they drive my car since it has all the carseats?)

I've always driven my car, and when they were in infant carriers, the parents got extra bases and left them in my car, and when they were in convertible seats we either switched them every morning (which was annoying) or else left them in my car through the week and then I took them out every Friday night.

If you have any other questions, let me know!

  • That is tough, but sometimes your head has to dictate more than your heart.  I'd give them notice now unless there's a chance of the new position falling through

  • I think that it's bad that when she gets called off at the last minute you don't get paid.  you have no control over that.  When we had a nanny and MIL wanted DS for the day we still paid our nanny.  she had no control over that.

I would give 4 weeks notice - so give your notice the first week of March.  that is enough time but not too much so that if they find someone earlier you are unemployed for a few weeks.

  • It's like teaching...you can't stay in a job for the kids.  There will always be good kids.  Go where it clearly makes more sense for you to be.

The thought of them finding someone else before you're ready to leave didn't even enter my mind.  I agree with Ondrea.

  • I agree with everyone else. You need to make the best choice for you and your family. Yes it will be sad to go, but they will find someone else and you have to do what's best for you.
