father that shoots daughters laptop... was this discussed?

I haven't seen it discussed here & was wondering what everyone thought about it.  Basically, the teen goes off on facebook about her parents with obscenities.  the father finds her post & makes a youtube video & shoots the laptop....  I was watching it on the Today show and there have been very mixed opinions.

  • i haven't seen it, but have heard about it...she's a brat for doing what she did, but he's an a$$ for doing what he did...what lesson did he teach her?
  • She is an ungrateful spoiled brat but I don't understand what she was supposed to learn.  I think he should have taken it away but shooting it just wasted his money.

  • He should have sold it, why shoot up $500? Like father like daughter I guess.
  • I think the main problem with it was his vigilante attitude and "showiness."  I remember being 13 and being a brat at the dinner table and having my father take away an already paid for ski club weekend trip.  So I don't think its a money thing or a wasteful thing, if anything I learned money was not going to get in the way of my dad teaching me a lesson and setting a boundary that I was not allowed to cross.  I think you can discipline teenagers without embarrassing them, but I guess it depends on the teen!
  • I think shooting the laptop was a bit much....why not donate it or give it to a child that doesn't have one?

I think the Facebook post she wrote was out of line...Really?  A 15 year old thinks that she should be PAID to make her bed?  Come on.

I did like that he said she WILL NOT refer to that woman as the cleaning lady...and I thought it was funny that she has to pay for the bullets he used.

You are right. MH and I watched the video that he made before shooting the laptop and this guy was totally self-indulgent in it. You have to watch it. Honestly, when I watched that video I could I could understand the dynamics of that family. It's crystal clear. The video shows him as being a big baby. And FTR I am nit one who sees a kid being disrespectful and thinks it's cute. It's disgusting but it seems like the father and the kid were cut from the same cloth.
  • What a jacka$$. Yes, the girl is a brat and does not deserve her laptop, but he is clearly narcissist.

  • the daughter is a brat but the father apparently doesn't know any better either if wants to teach his daughter a lesson by destroying a perfectly good laptop...what a way to teach your kid about the value of money.

my Dad has done stuff like that, well not posted it publicly, different times I guess. The lesson learned was follow the rules and don't be an ass, there are consequences.
