dermatologist for babies (rockland)

sorry if this comes off a bit of a rant but i'm so frustrated.

i have had it with A's eczema. triple paste worked for about a month or so then just stopped working. i am trying neosporin eczema and A wiped his self raw last night. There was dry blood all over his sheets and on his onsie. his face is so red and his dry skin on his legs has scratches and cuts to it. we have been to my pediatrician and a 2nd opinion. NOTHING helped.  i'm so frustrated. i want A to see a dermatologist. Luckily, our insurance doesn't require a referal so I can take him freely.

I use Rockland dermatology and think they are ok but i don't LOVE them. however, i hardly use one. I want a good one for A. I'm going to set up an appointment during the week so DH can take him while I'm working. Any suggestions? I was also going  to try an allergist but not sure if it's appropriate at this time.

Re: dermatologist for babies (rockland)

  • I see Johanna Baeuerle, 326 N Highland Ave in Nyack (845.358.3300). She's a really, really good dr.

I'm not sure if she sees them as young as A, but she has accolades hanging from her treatment of children with eczema.  So sorry he's dealing with this, eczema sucks

  • Eczema sucks I'm sorry.  K hd really bad as an infant but we didn't see derm.  I can't remember now, but try aquaphor ointment and covering it with stuff, and keeping his hands covered with socks etc so he can't scratch at it n the meantime.

  • Our pedi ordered food allergy bloodwork - positive meant he sent us to an allergist, negative would have meant dermatologist. So, the allergist is jay kashkin in fair lawn, NJ.

It might make sense to try to determine the source of the eczema first. We are now assuming its related to food.

Also, our pedi prescribed a steroid foam cream in the meantime. $160 later - it's a miracle foam

  • I see Dr. Gwen Abeles in Montvale. I LOVE her and everyone in the office. I'm not sure if they see pediatrics but it's worth a call. I would take DD there in a heartbeat if I needed her to see a derm.

  • I bet taking him to an allergist would get some answers. A term will say, yes he has eczema, here is an RX. The allergist will get to WHY he has it. The doc Navy recommended was AMAZING. His Mount Kisco office is a general pediatrics office. It only took us about 40 mins and it was SO worth it. They can test A to see if he is allergic to something he is eating or is around. They are extremely thorough. I guarantee you won't leave there without answer and a fix.

Poor A. Eczema is SO uncomfortable for them.

  • thanks ladies. after much yelling and screaming at dh, i decided to go with an allergist. and dermatologist if necessary later on. Kendra, you're right i rather know what causes it then just getting another cream or lotion. we seem to have it under control tonight. i'll have dh call on tuesday and set up an appointment.

  • i hope he feels better soon!  thats awful.  i second that maybe you want to see an allergist first. sue had a mystery rash about a year ago- we went to a regular derm who provided a cream which was useless- just dried her skin out.  then we went to an allergist.  he ran a battery of tests.  which wasnt the problem but he did go on and on about how children should see a pediatric dermatologist and how much better they are blah blah.  but the thing is there arent too many derms who specialize in pediatrics.  so long story short we did see a pediatric derm who was out in long island (near lake success- took me a little over an hour from here.)  i can give you the info if you need it, it's a drive but he knew what the issue was seconds after looking at her, and he was right!
