Dear Community,
Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. Thank you.
Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.
I was reading a post on another board about giving up FB or the nest for lent. I don't really believe in giving something up for 6 weeks; I think it is pointless. If you want to quit all together, then just do it ya know?
I am thinking of quitting FB. Pros? Cons? What say you BNOTB?

Re: Lent
I know several people that give up facebook.
Personally, I like to improve on something. I plan to be more active in the community and church that will hopefully get me back into the groove of doing it regularly.
I gave up FB for a week. It was pretty hard the first couple of days, but then it was easier. I started spending time doing other things and figuring out other ways to talk to friends.
It was kind of amazing to me how much time I spent on FB.
ETA:
I don't think Lent is so much about giving something up, but rather sacrificing.
This. It's usually done for religious reasons in the weeks leading up to Easter. It's just a way to acknowledge and prepare by going without for a while. Different people, different beliefs.
I'm kind of over Facebook too. I read other people's things, but I rarely post anything myself any more. The main reasons I keep it though are to keep in touch with some people who live far away and share travel photos with family.
I agree that Lent is about sacrificing. I gave up coffee last year and then developed a bad soda habit because I needed the caffeine.
While I like FB to keep up with old friends and family I don't see often, it's gotten kind of out of control. I "hide" more and more people, so I wonder if I'd miss it more than a day or 2.
Basically this. I'm not Catholic, but I am from a heavily Catholic area that celebrates Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras roughly translates from French as "Fat Tuesday," meaning the last chance to get what you want in before Ash Wednesday, which starts Lent. I gave up candy one year and that was difficult, but good for me. I haven't decided what to give up this year or if I will participate. I think I will. Maybe candy again.

Unless you are part of a religion that believes in this, why bother? I don't get it.
I grew up Catholic and went to catholic school. We were supposed to write things down to give up each year. I may have written things but never actually did it. Bleh.
No longer religious
Agreed.
Sometimes it can be a realization of addictions. If you give up FB or candy, you won't notice how addicted you may be (or how you're not as addicted as you think you are) until you sacrifice that thing for awhile.
