How much to spend on bday present for 1-yr old?

I know it depends, but how much do you usually spend for close friends and family?

Re: How much to spend on bday present for 1-yr old?

  • Usually around $30 - $40 ~ I always get an outfit (or two!!) & a toy.
  • A close friend or close family, I usually speand about $50. For a not-so-close friend or not-so-close family between $30-$40.  For really close friends or really close family (usually a certain 2-3 people) we spend about $75-$100 depending on situation....
  • $100 for close friends/family. ?$50 for - well, not so close friends/family.

  • Good thing I asked...  I was thinking more wedding gift range of $100-200!  Can you tell that I have not been to a lot of baby bday parties?

  • Oh my, yes, good thing you asked.  I would say enough to get a cute outfit and/or a toy.  Have fun!
  • For close friends/family's kid upwards of $100.

For not so close people, no more than $25.

  • You guys are all way nicer than I am. I never spend more than $15-$20 on a 1st birthday present. Kids that young outgrow everything so quickly and won't remember it so I don't give much.
  • In my large latino family we have over 40 people to buy for. I have 14 cousins and they have kids!!! I try to keep our gifts under or around $20-$25. Godchildren and parents being the only exception. We just cannot afford to give anymore than that.

  • i think it all depends on what you are comfy with.

People tend to go CRAZY over board sometimes.

For a somewhat good friend of mine, i decided to get 2 outfits, a blanket,  and a few books and a toy.  I think it was around 50ish.  I thought I did pretty well!  Macy's was having a nice sale.  I gift  wrapped it all nice and went to the party.   Then I was floored and embarrassed by the rest of the invitees gifts!  It was CRAZY,  it was like everyone was trying to out do everyone else.   The bigger the better, the more the better, the crazier the better.   Suddenly my nice small cute little pile seemed rather ... well.... i felt uncomfortable.

So my next friend, who was probably of equal closeness.  I spent a lot more and went a bit more extravagent.  Then I showed up to her DD party and again was embarrassed!  But this time, it was because I was WAY too overboard.  Everyone else just brought one little gift bag or gift.      UGH!!

So basically no matter what you do, its a toss up.

So again, my advice is to spend what is comfortable for you, and be happy with your picks....  then cover your eyes and walk blindly to the gift table... drop it... and run away without even peaking at the other gifts...  hahaha ha!
