This makes us either the coolest or crappiest of parents.

Travis is eating chocolate mint ice cream for breakfast.  Thats what he picked out.  and considering he is actually eating something I am happy about that.  he didn't eat dinner last night or much of a lunch for that matter so food is food at this point.

  • I might regret asking this, but how does ice cream become an acceptable meal option, rather than a treat? If I was 2, I wouldn't eat, either, if I knew my mom would let me eat ice cream for breakfast if I held out... I get that he doesn't eat but there are a lot of healthy, easy options he might see as a treat but that are actually healthy options with nutrients, rather than empty calories...  I'm sorry,I realize what your kid eats isn't my business but you're always putting his sleeping and eating problems out there, I can't help but comment on this one.

And now,I must resist the urge to have some ice cream myself. :-)

  • Well apparently we rock today.  He had a bowl of grapes before the ice cream (I forgot about) and a scrambled egg after the ice cream.  I can't figure this one out.

At this point I don't care what he eats since I know I don't get many days this year.

  • If I let Josie have that for breakfast I'd be doomed!  She is quite a PITA when it comes to eating, but I know she'll eat eventually and won't starve.

What does your doc say, that any food is better than no food?

Yes.  We have this discussion every time I bring him in.  He doesn't always get crap, but when he hasn't eaten for almost 24 hours whatever he picks out I'm ok with.

It's good that he's on board with you.  My doc is very no nonsense and I could not see him going along with that!

  • Seems like allowing the "treat" maybe opened up his appetite for more "acceptable" food. Whatever works is what I say.  Bella is a crappy eater too and many times if I give her a treat before a meal she actually finishes it with no issues.
  • For months Travis wouldn't touch ice cream.  His food preferences seem to come and go.  Even his milk consumption lately has somewhat dwindled and he loves his milk.  Or at least he used to.

  • Sometimes when Jules won't eat, if we let her have cheese (her favorite) it gets her to pay attention to whatever else is on her plate.  Kind of the same thing.
  • You know what, as long as he is eating. I am CERTAINLY not one to criticize...or anyone that hasn't dealt with those kinds of food issues. Perhaps I am just more sympathetic to the situation because many of Gabe's friends, like himself, are on the autism spectrum and have issues with food. So, the fact that he is JUST EATING means a lot. I completely get that.

If this is too personal, don't answer...but do you know why he doesn't eat? Is it textures or he just doesn't like eating???

You will forever be my best friend. I can almost feel our hugs. I will ensure everyone will know (now and in the future) what a genuine, kind, loving person you were...I already miss your laughter and our daily conversations. I love you, Samantha. May 20, 1983- February 20, 2012
