Moving question

Hi Girls-

My husband and I are relocating to Illinois...my husband has a new job in Chicago. The city of Naperville was suggested to us re: renting a home. Just wondering what Naperville is like...we have 2 young children so we defninitely want a home versus apartment to rent. Is this a family friendly/nice place to live?

TIA

Re: Moving question

  • Naperville is great.  It has alot to do.  If he's going to take the Metra into downtown, you should check out the parking.  I don't know how tough it is to park at the Naperville station.  Other places to consider are Elmhurst, Downers Grove and Wheaton.  All are family friendly and have train stations.

  • Naperville is a nice town, you can get a lot of home for your money. I've heard the schools are very good. Another city very close to Naperville that is also good is Plainfield.
  • You will love Naperville!  Good schools, great downtown area, good community!  Stay away from Aurora (except North Aurora), and you'll be good.

They have a DuPage Children's Museum, just North of the downtown area, a river walk, and good shopping and restaurants!  You may want to rent first just to see which area of Naperville you prefer, but I'm sure you'll like it once you move!

    Good Luck!  : )

  • Naperville is great. It is one of the largest suburbs so there is a ton to do, their downtown is so nice.

I grew up in Wheaton, which is just north of Naperville and also very nice. Other towns you should look in to: Warrenville (they are in the Wheaton school district), Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove, Lisle, and Lombard. All are in the same general area- western suburbs.

  • How long of a commute is your husband interested in? Is the job downtown Chicago? Naperville is very nice, but not the best idea if he's working in Lake Forest.  I currently live downtown ish in Lincoln Park and commute to Northbrook -- it's 1 hr 15 mins via car and up to 2 hours to get home on Fridays.

  • Naperville is a great area, but so is Aurora (west side).  It's only a short drive (10 minutes) to the less developed areas (country) in the far western suburbs.  Aurora is a safe place and has a small town atmosphere.  I was born and raised in Aurora and have also chosen to live in Aurora and work here as well.  There are some older areas that have changed over the years, but that doesn't mean Aurora is not safe.  Just like any other city around, we all have things that happen.  Naperville has a large nightlife crowd, which can sometime cause some trouble.  Good luck with your search!
