which sentence is correct?

I keep saying it both ways and am confusing myself:

(it's in a manuscript I'm editing)

1) ... no matter in what country the drawings are made or read.

2) ... no matter what country the drawings are made or read in.

Re: which sentence is correct?

  • You shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition, so #1.

However, I would change "what" to "which," but that may just be a stylistic thing.

...no matter in which country the drawings are made or read.

  • Good, I'm glad you confirmed that for me.  It's written like #2 in the manuscript (which is for a textbook), but my brain kept correctly it to #1.  But I was second guessing myself because, well, it's a textbook manuscript and I wasn't expecting to correct grammar as much as content.

    Thanks!
