Recommend a getaway

I am in desperate need of a getaway!  DH and I would like to go somewhere within the next month but it has to be within driving distance for a two night stay.  It just needs to be a great place to relax!   Any ideas?

  • One thing I forgot....DH is not into B&B's so that is the one thing that is out.

  • The Homestead? It's definitely not a B&B and it's within driving distance (I think about 4 hrs from DC). It's gorgeous there and not your typical hotel.

  • We went to Nemacolin after our wedding, which is great for relaxing. They have lots of spa packages. It's about 3 and a half hours away, and is pretty close to the Frank Lloyd Wright house Fallingwater, which is interesting to check out.

  • I've never been to either, but Deep Creek Lake is a popular recommendation.

There's also a place on the Chesapeake Bay that people recommend... St. Michael's, maybe?   (I can't remember, so I should just shut up... LOL)

  • Charlottesville is nice and not far away. Philadelphia has some fun things, too.

  • There are some nice places in the Shenandoah Valley too, in the Luray/New Market area. We went there on our HM and it was very quiet/peaceful. The place we stayed wasn't a B&B, but there was stuff there for us to make our own breakfast if we wanted (fresh milk/juice/fruit/eggs and bacon). That helped us save quite a bit of money.

  • What do you all want to do?  Hiking, wineries/breweries, spa?

We loved our weekend in Charlottesville.  We did walking, winery tour, great meals, and historic sites.

The Homestead looks great - they may have an offering on Living Social or Groupon as well.

We are foodies, so we love weekend trips to Philly/NYC/Atlantic City - they have so many things to do and not all food related!

  • Another great getaway was this - Spa at Hershey Hotel.  They have an amazing (chocolate) spa and the Sunday brunch is awesome!  Even in the Park is not open, they do have shops open and the Hershey parade was so fun.  And, there are ton of outlets so shopping is available as well.
