16 yr old cat won't stop meowing loudly at night...

About 3 wks ago i had to put my other cat down. This cat was sick and was also 16 yrs old. They weren't that close, in fact the cat i have now hissed at the other one. But they were still together for 16 yrs old so i think she is missing him.

How can i help her get over him? She meows really loud ALL night long. She has food, water and a clean litter box. it's weird because it's like she'll meow 5 times in a row then stop...10-20mins later 5 more times..all night.

We have tried to show her more attention but we have 16 mos old twins that demand our attention most of the time.

I would appreciate any suggestions!!

Thanks!!

  • I would try feliway or something similar to help decrease her stress. Good luck! Our cat does this too, but he's just talkative. He meows pretty much all day every day.
  • I'm so sorry for the loss of your other cat :(  I ditto PP with the Feliway rec. (Try ebay or Amazon - cheaper than the store). I lost a cat in Nov. and his sister did this for a while also. It passed as she adjusted to him being gone. Hopefully the same goes for yours. Good luck.

  • My 15 y/o cat did the same thing when her best friend died.  After a few weeks she stopped and spent her nights sleeping on my pillow.  Just this week (after several months) she's started giving me a little more space.  We use Feliway too but I don't know if it made any difference b/c we were already using it before Frankie passed.

    So sorry for your loss.
