Moms, any tips on buying a glider?

Anyone have a good rec for one, is it important that it reclines, I will take any tips. Thank you so much!!

Re: Moms, any tips on buying a glider?

  • My advice is make sure it is sturdy. Ours is from Babies R Us (I don't remember the brand) and it is a piece of crap!  It is completely falling apart. As soon as we take it out of Keegan's room it is going in the garbage. We will have to buy a new one when we have another child. It just can't be saved!

  • we have 2, one was a Duetalier for $700 and the other was from BRU for $200. The cheap one is cheap for a reason. Our nice one doesnt recline, I didnt see the need for that. Its very large and the stool should also glide. I like that our nice one swivels as well. it makes it much easier to get out of it. I wish we had gotten 2 nice ones because it is absolute hell to spend the night in the cheap one with a sick kid
  • Skip the glider and get a comfortable recliner.  We borrowed my SIL's glider and it was great when he was a newborn, but we ended up buying a recliner and wish we would have just bought it to begin with.

  • We've got this one from Shermag. I love it. I use it every single day, I've slept in it more hours then I can count and it's held up well. Yes, it makes noise (which I think was the main complaint on the website), but I don't mind because it's comfortable. It reclines, which I don't use much now but did in the early days.

We have this one, too & I am really happy with it. I've used it practically every day since DS was born & it's holding up perfectly.

  • We got a Shermag from BRU...we got this one with a matching separate ottoman.

We LOVE it!!  So comfortable and has lasted us a long time, and will be perfect for this new baby as well.  One thing to note--we had seen and sat in a lot of gliders before deciding on this one...the reason we went with it is because most the cheaper ones were too small for my husband, and he wanted to make sure the glider fit him comfortably too--he is 6'2" where I am 5'3", so most gliders were fine with me, but not for him!  If your husband is planning on using it too I would make sure he is comfortable in it too!

We got GREAT use out of ours...we used it from the day we brought her home until about 2 months ago when we switched her to her big girl bed (so a little over 2.5 years).  We'd still be using it to this day if we didn't switch her room to accomodate #2 who will be here in June!  They have a whole bedtime routine of reading, talking, singing, etc...before bedtime, and sitting in daddy's lap in the glider was always a part of it until the room change!  :)  The new baby will get lots of use out of it too!

  • I have the cheap one from Walmart and it worked really well for me. It's still in E's room.

I never had a glider for B. Bought this one when I had E and it has lasted this long.

  • Buying a glider was the most stressful task and took the longest out of everything I did when getting ready for my baby.  Seriously, I over-thought it, tried every glider in every store I visited, bought one, started putting it together only to realize I hated it, returned it and ended up getting a relatively inexpensive one off Amazon thinking I was just "settling" because I was running out of time and needed something.  Turns out I love it.  It does not recline, but it did come with the gliding ottoman, which I really don't use nearly as much as I thought I would.  That's just my take on it.

  • We went to Crib and Teen City and the guy was helpful telling me things that would make me comfy.  He actually talked me out of a really expensive glider, because it didn't fit me right.  We got a Dutaller (sp).  I love it.  I wish I had gotten the ottoman.

I also have one from Walmart, probably cost about $300.  It's an upholstered glider & ottoman and it works great for us.

Mine is super cheap. I'm pretty sure it was $80 for the glider and ottoman.......

  • we have the brand "Best" from buy buy baby.  it is fully upholstered and a recliner.  like a pp, i have slept more hours in the glider than i care to admit.  i def. recommend a recliner.  the buy buy baby store in totowa is where i went and you can try out the diff. models.  it was ~$600 and the best "baby" item i bought.
