Cracked iphone screen repair

Has anyone paid to have this done?  Any recommendations for where to have it done, especially if it's close to Clear Lake?  I'm bringing it by Apple today but I'm not hopeful that they'll do much for me.  Thanks!

This is what I've heard, but haven't tested it out. A friend cracked her screen and I mentioned I heard about the APple replacement and sure enough the did it for her. What I don't know is whether I need to sign up or enroll/pay for any kind of coverage to ensure replacement should my phone get cracked. Anyone know?

They did for mine 

Fingers crossed.  My phone is the iphone 4 so I've had it over a year now.  I'll update with what they say when I go by after work.

You can buy APple care 30 days within buying the new phone.  It was $100 for 2 years of coverage and only a $50 replacement fee. Verizon wanted to charge me like $10/month and the replacement fee would have been $189.

Well, the Apple in the Baybrook mall told me that they used to do a 1 time only replacement for a broken screen last year but aren't allowed to do that anymore and that broken screens aren't covered under the warranty.  It's $149 to get a replacement without touching your phone contract.  So, I went ahead and did that only because my volume buttons and silence switch didn't work anymore, and my home button was laggy.  If it would have just been the glass, I would have paid to have someone replace the glass instead.
