If you observe Lent

or if you just like to play along each year, what are you giving up this year?   I thought I was going to give up Facebook but I honestly don't see that being realistic for me.     I need some ideas for something that will actually be attainable for me.

Re: If you observe Lent

  • coffee or buying coffee out

    caffeine

    eating out

    tv

    meat

  • DH and I are giving up soda.  DH is also giving up alcohol, though I don't really know why because he/we rarely drink.
  • Since I am giving up a lot for pregnancy and don't know what food aversions I might have during Lent, I've decided to start doing something I don't normally do instead of giving something up.  Not sure what that will be, though!

I gave up FB and the Nest two years ago.  I don't think I'll do that again.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

    Whoo hoo!!!

I'm not catholic, but usually try and use lent as a reminder to do something nice for someone else every day.

  • I'm not observing Lent, but my sister starts something positive each Lent and does that.  One year it was organizing - she had to organize/clean one drawer/cupboard or spend 30-min doing something similar every day for Lent.  Another thing she did was write letters - she wrote for 20-min everyday and sent real letters/cards to family and friends.  I think last year she read one story from the bible to her son everyday and talked about it - he was 3 going on 4.

Are you united with the CCOKCs?

  • As usual we aren't giving up, we are giving out, so we'll cut back on eating out and put that money in DDs hunger relief bank.

We are also going to spend the 40 days making one homeless survival kit a day - think washcloth, clippers, comb, soap, nail file, etc in a little pouch.

  • I don't observe lent, but my sister is starting something new that is positive...I think she is planning to try to work out every day (maybe only go for a walk on low-impact/rest days, but still working out somehow).

I thought about this, but on the weekends when I have N with me it's just not logistically possible unless I get a baby sitter to come for an hour each day while I go down to the gym. Plus I'm already working out regularly so it wouldn't really be adding anything.

I think I'm going to give up eating out, ordering delivery, fast food, treats at the movie theater etc.  No buying food except at the grocery store.  OMG, as I was typing,  I just realized this includes giving up my Einstein Bros. bagels!  GAH!

  • We're going strictly pescaterian for all of Lent, which is going to be rough. I'm already doing it for breakfast/lunch but it'll be so hard for dinner.

I think this is a nice idea.

  • I don't know yet. I tried giving up/limiting my internet time last year and failed miserably.

I think maybe if I try to do one non-internet thing each night (organize cabinets, catch up on chores, do some scrap-booking), then maybe it'll help me get out of my flop-on-the-couch-once-the-girls-go-to-bed rut. Which would be nice.
