So we're doing a large trip through Europe this summer and I'm considering shaving some time off our stay in Barcelona (currently 6 days) to instead do some time in San Sebastian - was just wondering what posters here would recommend? I know it's a foodie town with 3 3-star Michelin restaurants, but what else is so great? A long beach? Is there more to do in / around the town? I'm trying to limit how often we pack / unpack / move around since we're gone for six weeks, but I keep hearing about San Sebastian so just would love other people's advice. Also, if we do go - is two days enough? How would you split the 6 days between SS and Barca? TIA.

My comments on Guernica still apply.
I'd split my time 4 days Barca, 2 days SS/day trip, with SS at the end of the trip.
I personally think 6 days in Barcelona is too long and would go to San Sebastian over it in a heartbeat! I would maybe do 3 and 3, or 4 days in Barcelona, 2 in SS. I studied abroad there and it is by far one of my favorite cities in Europe! Great food, 3 great beaches, good shopping. There is great hiking you can do in the area, kayaking, surfing is amazing. You can also take a day trip to the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao. So much to do and see and you will not regret it!
Have fun and good luck!
I think SS is a great town and would def give it a few days. The town, relatively, small, but it is foodie heaven. Also, you can do some great day-trips from SS-- easily a 3-4night town, IMO.
I like Barca too... for me a few nights, 3-4, would give you a good flavor. I actually liked Cinq Sentis in Barcelona better than Akalare in SS. But overall, I liked SS more than Barcelona.
I was in SS a long time ago, but I loved it. It's much better than Barcelona for non-sightseeing vacation activities IMO (beach, eating, drinking, being out at night). I can't wait to go back.
When in summer? Be cautious if it's during San Fermin (or take a bus to Pamplona and join in-- as I did!)
we hit SS during San Fermin last year (did Pamplona too) and it was great. certainly a foodie town. the top rated places were not in our budget but who cares when there are tapas everywhere! the train ride from barcelona to Ss was not bad at all. the beach is great. very walkable charming place. We were there in summer so we stayed near the beach but the older part of town (Gris i think) is supposed to be great too.
