The vet started him on steriods on Saturday, and thinks that was caused him to perk up on Sunday (sitting up, going outside, had an appetite). He stopped them last night, and he's back to how he was Saturday when we brought him in - pretty unresponsive, not moving, not eating. So he started the steriods again this morning, but hasn't seen any change yet. So they're keeping him again tonight, continuing with the steriods, and hope to see a positive change in the morning.
If there's no change in the morning, we'll discuss where to go from there. The diagnosis right now is an "immune mediated problem." The vet doesn't know what triggered it, though. I guess his liver numbers were a bit elevated, so he'd likely check that next - an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy.
But if he has perked up in the morning, they'll look at sending him home tomorrow on oral steroids.
Getting him back to sitting up/eating - how he was doing yesterday, is the first hurdle. From there, we still have to figure out what's really going on/how we're going to treat it. But it sounds like there's a better chance of that happening if we know the steriods are working.
So I'm sitting here at my desk, trying (and failing) not to cry. I can't leave till 5, but H & I are going to stop by the vet's office & visit Miller on our way home.
Re: Miller doesn't get to come home tonight. :(
I'm really really sorry.
Hope your boy is back home soon!
