How do you take your baby's temperature?
I can't bring myself to stick a thermometer up her butt. LOL... The temporal thermometer says 99.9, so I just gave her some Tylenol and I'm not too concerned. Just wondering what you all do.
Re: How do you take your baby's temperature?
rectal always if we are really worried and want an accurate temp. Nothing else is very accurate.
once Griffin was about 3.5 we started using an oral thermometer with him- he's good about keeping it under his tongue. We have an ear and one of those forehead scanning ones- both are always a degree or more off compared to rectal.
Enter in the rear!
The most accurate. I wouldn't trust the ear, forehead type things. We did it for Max until he was about 3. Weird I guess but it had to be done. Now he does it orally thank god.
Leo gets it the same way poor doll lol.
OK, if she feels warm later I will just do it! lol
At what temperature are you calling the ped?
The Journey of Me
Vacation, 2011
Liz you can do it! I did it up the rear for the first time this week and I was scared but he laughed the whole time, so either it didn't bother him or I have a strange kid
I called the pedi when his was 99.4 bc he usually runs cool, like 98.3 BUT this was all paired with bloody stool, so it wasn't just a temp. She said to call for anything over 100.
LOL! That is cute that he laughed, maybe it tickles?
I hope he is OK!
THIS could be the best line I ever read on the Nest. Granted, I cut most of it but it is still awesome.
Oh... my.... GOD LOL!!!!! I didn't realize I wrote that.... LOL!!!!!!
Thanks! It seems he has a dairy allergy, so he's ok but I'm not since I can't eat dairy lol.
rectally. I was afraid at first, too, but my sister showed me how & then it was easy.
I put him on the changing table & put up his legs like I'm changing his diaper. Then hold his legs up & put the thermometer in gently with lots of Vaseline on the tip. If possible, I have MH distract him with a toy so he stays still.
I have that instant reading ear one & I don't trust it b/c I never know if I got it in his ear far enough.
Temporal thermometer....it's so quick and easy, accurate and what the hospitals use.
EDIT...I just want to add I never did a rectal temp with any of my three kids!
