Activities with an 8 year old?

My "little sister" with big brothers big sisters has spring break coming up.  Her mom asked if I could take her to do something extra special that week since her little brother is getting a therapy dog and is getting boatloads of attention.  Any ideas (please note, I live in Montana ;)

Re: Activities with an 8 year old?

  • A day trip to go sledding or snow shoeing with lots of hot chocolate and a yummy lunch somewhere.
  • Oops!  Should add that it has to be late afternoon/evening...I have work during the day.
  • How's your ice skating rink situation there? How about a really nice dinner somewhere?  I always got a kick out of fancy dinners at that age.
  • Movie or bowling and then dinner?

I like the ice skating idea as well.

  • I like all the ideas others mentioned.  What about art night or taking a yoga class together (ideally one that welcomes kids), or learning to do some kind of craft together like knitting or crochet?  Our nieces love to cook with me...maybe you could bake cookies or make a healthy dinner together?
  • If she is a girly girl maybe a mani/pedi, hair and a fancy dinner?
  • How about bowling and DQ?  This suggestion is geared toward MT-friendly options. :)

  • Ryan looooooves getting her nails painted, so "mani/pedi" is fun - we just do the polish with cool designs.

Movie and a "fancy" dinner is fun.

  • I like the ice-skating idea also, but if she hasn't gone before, it might be really hard at first.  Also downhill or cross-country skiing would be fun.  Bohart is really fun with kiddos and has rentals and everything.  She'd probably only last an hour, but if she's never been it would be very memorable.

If she's not too outdoorsy, how about Paint Your Own Pottery - I'm think your town has one of those, right?  Is there an event at the Museum that week?

Or if you want to be BigSister Warbucks, you could sign her up for a whole week of art camp.  I know they have one here, so I bet they have one in your "big" city. Wink
