Re: BettyJoe, rayskit10, and other lovers of mid-century mod

  • NICE!  I would give up some of my very favorite things for a MCM house. DH however will not let me move to Spring Branch and buy the house that I want that's 5 houses down from my little brother.

I just dropped two of my grandparents pieces off (from 1949-1950ish timeframe) to be refinished.  They're transitional pieces from deco to MCM... cannot wait to see how they turn out.  It's amazing how high the quality is on the furniture from that time period.  They're veneer, but it's mahogany veneer is 1/8-1/4" thick over oak. I get to go see them stripped/sanded down and prepped for stain on Friday, eek!

  • Although it was apparently old news via swamplot, I was very saddened to notice last week that this house had been torn down:

I briefly cooked for them several years ago before the market tanked and although I only saw a small part of the house, it was an awesome house. (Heating up food was to difficult for them, apparently)  Maybe they had to sell to downsize--I don't know.

I'm generally not a huge fan of MCM, but holy cow that house is (was?) amazing!
