toddler sleep help-how long do you let this go on for?

Avery's been fighting bed time for a while now, testing our limits etc. ive been trying the whole Dont look at her or speak just bring her back to bed as many times as it takes thing.

so how many times do you let this go on before you either see it work or try something else. tonight we are on round 6 with lots of screaming "mommy open the door" in between. shes gotten to the point where shes not running out of the room right away, but she still will eventually come out again after a few minutes.

i want this to work. i am trying very hard to be consistent. i just dont know how long this is going to take and how i am going to get anything else done tonight while going back and forth with her...

im literally on my laptop sitting outside her room while she is yelling at me LOL.

  • From what I've heard you have to keep with it for as long as it takes.  If you break then they know they can eventually get their way.  I take it she is in a bed, that is how she's getting out?

  • yea shes in a toddler bed. theres a rail on it but she can move it to get out.

she hasnt come out since this last round, but has been screaming and jumping on the bed. shes not tired out yet, i can tell from the force of her screaming. i guess ill take it as progress that shes staying in the room at least, for now, right?

I would say so. At this point I would not turn back and stay consistent.  Good Luck!  I'm keeping my kids locked up as long as humanly possible. A 6 YO can fit in a crib, right? ;)

  • give her something to work for - if she stays in bed she gets a sticker in the morning... on a chart or something (not sure how much she'll understand at her age) and if she gets 5 stickers she gets to pick out a prize at the store --- something like that.  We did that with Griffin last year when he was having a hard time going to bed without calling us up 10x's a night.  He went like 90 straight days without calling us up after starting a sticker chart with him.
I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.
