Any owners of IBD kitties?

One of my kitties (almost 8) has started having some problems with intermittent vomiting and diarrhea. I took him to the vet for a checkup and they didn't find anything obviously wrong, so we're suspecting he's maybe developing a little bit of food sensitivity/IBD as he ages. I started him on a kitty elimination diet this morning and put him on a novel protein source (duck) like was recommended. The idea is to see if that clears up his symptoms and if so, to reintroduce other foods one at a time to see if we can figure out which one is causing the problem. I hope so, because I was only able to find one brand of cat food that had a non-chicken/turkey/beef/fish protein as the sole protein. And it's not cheap!

But mainly I wanted to ask, has anyone else been down this road with a kitty before, and were you able to resolve the problem? Ours has messed up the carpet in so many spots my husband has started making me keep him shut in the laundry room until we figure this out, and I hate to think of him staying in there indefinitely.
