Need gift suggestion for 2 y/o boy

We are going to the birthday party of a boy in Madeline's class at daycare. He'll be two, and we don't know him/the family that well, but I thought it'd be a good way to meet some other parents. 

What's a good gift idea in the $10 to $15 range. Madeline is obsessed with dolls right now, so I'm not up to speed on what a boy would like.

books in my opinion are always a good gift. Or maybe some finger paint/ brushes / paper / crayons.

Books are my go to. Play food, Color Wonder, trucks or trains, play-doh

Play-doh, Aquadoodle, Lincoln Logs... those are my suggestions.

Zac just had his second birthday, here are some things he's into right now:

Art supplies: Crayons, paper, chalk

Games: board puzzles that make sounds

Toys: Cars, mega-blocks, trains

Charactes: Thomas, Nemo, Chuggington, Mickey (he got a character pillow for his b-day from his GG and he loves it)

Books: Elmo Uses the Potty (makes sounds so thats a +)
