classes weekend activities for toddlers?
I'd like to get started doing some kind of fun weekend class or group activity with Gaby, thinking swim lessons maybe but wanted to see if you all had any other ideas in the Lewiston/Augusta vicinity that might be fun to look into. I'm thinking also music or dance/tumbling, but I don't really know where to look besides the YMCA/YWCA. Any ideas?
Re: classes weekend activities for toddlers?
Here is what we have done:
Swimming lessons at the YMCA in Auburn. I recommend starting these early. It takes some kids a little while to acclimate to the water. We have done two sessions, one with Denny in the water with Ridley and the other with Ridley in the water on her own. She did MUCH better on her own.
Music Together classes in Auburn. Honestly, it was OK. Ridley liked the music but most of the kids were bored about halfway through and just wanted to play with each other. Also, the teachers were weird IMHO. And there was a lice scare. Not all that great of an experience which is why we didn't re-enroll. I don't remember these being all that expensive. Maybe it varies by area.
Gymnastics classes at Andy Valley in Lewiston. These were great. We did two sessions and Ridley really enjoyed them. Again, one session had Denny participating with her and the other was Ridley on her own. She liked both and it helped to get her energy out in a constructive, fun way.
Dance lessons at The Dance Center in Auburn. We start these in March. She will be taking Creative Movement. I can let you know how it goes. She is super excited about the ballet slippers and the leotard we got this weekend. If she doesn't love dance, we will go back to gymnastics.
Also, just as an FYI, both the Auburn and Lewiston public libraries have started children's programming and we have been to both a movie showing and a puppet show at APL that were pretty good and free. LPL is really trying to cater to "hip, urban parents," which I try to convince myself that I am, but we haven't made it to any of their events yet. If you haven't already, I suggest subscribing to the Macaroni Kids newsletter.
I second Macaroni Kids newsletter.
Clouts, I remember the two teachers at the MT class in Auburn when I took T down for the demo. I agree....both of them were just really really weird. I'm glad I found the Kennebec MT class!
Thanks for the tips! I love the idea of the library stuff. I've been disappointed by ours (Monmouth) and others that really have nothing activity-wise on the weekends. But it's cool to see stuff going on at the Auburn library. I'm anxious to hear about the dancing Kristen, that sounds like a lot of fun for the Ridz.
