Intro & Preschool Question for SE Aurora Moms

Hi!  I am a mom of 3, ages 3.5, 2, and 7 months.  We are relocating from Texas to Colorado in a few weeks and I am looking for preschool/MDO options for DS and DD.  DS is currently in a preschool program at our church here in Texas and we love it.  We'd love to find something similar in the SE Aurora area, but I'm having a hard time finding many churches that offer preschool.

Any recommendations?  What about non-church affiliated preschools?  Montessori schools?

Thanks!  I look forward to posting more here in the coming weeks!

Re: Intro & Preschool Question for SE Aurora Moms

  • We have DD in preschool at Southeast Christian.  It isn't in Aurora, but depending on where you live in SE Aurora - it isn't far from there.

  • We have been taking our daughter (who is almost 5) to Primrose of SaddleRock and have been very happy with it since she was an infant.  She's been through preschool and is now in Pre-K there.   It's near Smoky Hill and E470.    Our neighbor takes her son (he's 3) to Smoky Hill United Methodist Church for preschool and has been happy with it as well.

  • We take our daughter to Orchard Valley learning center. We just moved over to SE Aurora and have liked this center a lot so far. I also looked at Cherry Creek Weslyan Church - they have a preschool program as well. http://ccwc.info/family-programs/centennial-christian-daycare-preschool

Also, there is Montessori school of Aurora which I know two families who take their kids there (one is a mom on this board) and rave about it and it was our other option for us, but felt Orchard Valley fit our DD better.

ETA: DS has been going to preschool through the CC school district and we have been really happy with it so far.

  • Welcome!  We moved to CO a little over a year ago from TX.  I have to say for us the hardest thing was the sticker shock.  I don't know where in TX you live but compared to where we came from in TX preschool programs were much more expensive.

Although you might have better luck since you are looking for a program affiliated with a church.  (we were not because we are Jewish)  We looked a several non church programs in the area and decided that for the kind of money they were wanting I would have had to go back to work for us to be able to afford a program.

I'm headed back to work next week (unrelated to childcare) and we just signed our DD up for the Montessori school just up the street.  She will also go to Kindergarten there instead of our local school.  We were very happy with the school and the program.

  • Thanks for all the info!

I've already contacted Smoky Hill UMC about openings, so I'm glad to hear about positive experiences with them.  I'll definitely check out all the other options you all have mentioned.

Noah&ZachsMom - We are actually making a trip to the area this week for house hunting...but, we're not buying just yet.  We still have a house to sell here and we want to really be sure of the area and exactly where we want to be before we buy.  So, our plan is to rent for 6 months to a year.  Right now, we're leaning towards a few homes in the Saddle Rock and Tallgrass areas.

Yeah, I've noticed things are a bit on the pricey side.  The church options are pretty similar to what we have here, but the hours are not as long...so, in the long run, still more expensive there.  Non-church options, though, are definitely shocking to us.  We looked into it a little bit before DH accepted his job, so we were able to use that as a tool to negotiate his salary, but it will still be hard to right that check every month if we go with a non-church option.

Are you from TX?  What area, if you don't mind me asking?  We are in the Houston area right now, but I'm from the DFW area and DH is from San Antonio...met at A&M.

We moved from Midland Texas but were only in Midland for 3 years, prior to that we lived in Arlington.

  • When we lived out that way DS went to Goddard School for preschool.  They let you customize your schedule as you want it.   And I second SE Christian.  That's where were go to church and, if for some reason DS doesn't get into the school that's closer to where we live now, I'll be trying to put him there for kindergarten this fall.
