can anyone help with any vacation suggestions over spring break?

We went to Disney last April and had a blast, and i would like to go away again this April.  It has to be spring break week becuase my kids are in school. I dont think we can do Disney again, because of the cost factor ( we stayed on property last year, meal plan, etc). I was also looking into flights and they are super expensive this time of year so that is part of the problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions of a good vacation spot, in the united states( short flight).  That is not expensive??

Thanks so much!!

  • If you want low key and relaxing not too far a drive we head to the Outer Banks, NC. We rent a beach house, get the pool heated and we hang. Usually the ocean isnt warm enough to go in, but we play on the beach all day and put our feet in, play in the pool, there is a cute aquarium, some historical stuff to see, super cute town of Manteo, wild horse jeep tours, cool lighthouse, lots of outlet shopping and good restaurants. There is a slew of other stuff to do but we have been there and done that so many times I forget most of it. We go in the peak season of summer, but actually love going in the spring. There is no traffic and we can enjoy the area so much more, its nice to get away as a family and just spend quality time instead of always doing tons of stuff. If you need recommendations let me know
  • We were booked on a cruise to Bermuda and up the east coast in April a few years back (Denise - LadyRedLight booked it for us). We had to cancel that one unfortunately (flood) but traveled on the same ship - Explorer of The Seas to Bermuda the following July. It was so much fun!!!!!!!!! The cruise was out of Bayonne so easy to get to and only 5 days. And it was a great price.

  • I've heard great things about Amelia Island Plantation.  It's off the coast of Florida, near Jacksonville.  It's supposed to be a great family spot.  Denise had recommended it, we went with Punta Cana instead.

We almost stayed there a few years ago. I have heard lots of raves about it, and my daughter shares the name so I am sure someday we will head there. We went to Kiawah Island, SC instead and it was one of our best trips, its beautiful there.

  • The family trip that best sticks out in my childhood memory was Williamsburg, VA. Historic Williamsburg is beautiful and really fun, Busch Gardens is nearby and great, as is History Jamestown and a few other sites. I think it was like 8 hours from Central Jersey, so not too bad!

  • okay great thanks for all the suggestions....can anyone provide me with links, etc.? of where they stayed???

  • On Amelia Island we were going to stay at the Ritz Carlton, it was before peak season and they have an excellent kids club

On Kiawah we rented a villa from Kiawah Island Getaways. Really beautiful condo, owners were great, beach was beautiful, just google

We rent from Twiddy and Joe Lamb Jr in the Outerbanks, just google

We also stayed At the Marriot Ocean Grande on Hilton Head and while we are time share members its also possible to stay there without and its gorgeous!

  • Flights to San Francisco are really inexpensive (or seem to be to my inexperienced wallet) at under $250/seat.
