Swimming with dolphins

Have you done it? If so, where? What did you think?

My mom is turning 50 this year, and to say she is dolphin-obsessed is an understatement. I'm thinking of taking her on one of the dolphin experience things, but I am curious if you ladies have any personal experience. I've looked into Marineland, but I'm sure there are others..

Re: Swimming with dolphins

  • I've heard awesome things about the Dolphin thing at Sea World - Discovery Cove, I think? It's pricey, but looks really neat.

  • I second hearing great things about Discovery Cove in Orlando.
Another old nestie with a new name.
  • I did it years ago down in the Keys. My mom took us on a girls vacation & did it for the 3 of us. It was so much fun! I would do it again in a heartbeat. They let you do tricks with them, hold on to them while they pulled you, they pushed you around etc. Then we probably had another 30 min of free swim time where they would swim past you & all around you while you pet them. Such a cool experience.

  • DH and I did it in Nassau, Bahamas. It was so cool. You got to play with them and then you actually got to put your feet on it and the dolphin pushed you across the water.

  • Discovery Cove is amazing. We did it about 6 years ago and still talk about it. the whole day is fabulous, not just the dolphin part. There is a reef to snorkel in, rays to interact with, a lazy river, beaches, etc. And you get tix to Sea World in the price. Well worth it IMO.

  • Thanks, guys! I think we will try Discovery Cove, but I haven't decided yet... the reviews are mostly really positive, but there are a sprinkling of them that say they felt like they were the meat in a meat market and that the dolphins seemed bored and sad.... so now I'm questioning the whole thing. whomp whomp.
