King Cake - Did you eat king cake today?
Confess
I did and it was really good - this one almost tasted like a kolache, with creamcheese filling. I did not get the baby.

The big sister, and Momma 30 weeks along with baby sister

there was one at work today, I may have taken a little piece
I didn't get the baby.

Nope. I'd bet $100 that no one within a 20 mile radius knows what a king cake is and within a 40 mile radius has ever eaten a king cake.
There was absolutely no talk of mardi gras, etc. at school today (which, when I was in HS, was always a topic discussed by us as kids).

I probably wouldn't have either except for the fact that a college roommate had king cake overnighted from some bakery for fat Tuesday every year. She was from NO and a weeee bit proud of it.

Me too!
You might have problems finding them year round (the tradition is to only bake them for carnival season). The only bakery I know that makes them year round is Haydel's and you have to order them in advance.

Hmm. Thanks for the heads up. The two friends I'm going with both lived in NO for several years and they have been talking about getting a couple to bring home. Perhaps they have forgotten that you can't get them year round.
Does your cw know that if she gets the baby she makes the cake next year!!?!
and the party is at her house!!

The person who gets the trinket is declared the King or Queen of the day, however in some states the person who gets the trinket or baby will soon have a baby. The king or queen is usually obligated to supply the next king cake or host the next party or both
Nope, and I've actually never had it before.
I also did not get a paczki.

I did! And I got beads... (and thank god, I did not have to flash anything...)
A friend of mine went to NOLA and SO and I watch his little furballs, so he brought us back some goodies and we tasted the kings cake tonight...
