How do you clean your dog's crate?

Our dog has a molded plastic 'airline' crate and I noticed it does not smell as fresh as it could.

People tell me Lysol but I think that would bother a dog's sensitive nose.

I use Simple Green -pink grapefruit and/or vinegar-water solution.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Re: How do you clean your dog's crate?

  • I'm huge on germs and what not. I always use dawn to wash the crates, then I use a lysol wipe on them. It never smells like lysol and the dogs don't sneeze or anything when they go in their crates.

  • I use vinegar and water then sometimes I will use the got pee enzymatic cleaner.

  • I have wire crates.  If I clean the entire crate, I hose it down, then spray nature's miracle on it.  If I'm just cleaning the pan after they get a messy raw meal, I clean with vinegar.

  • I clean with vinegar/water, or hydrogen peroxide/water. Once a month, I'll use Nature's Miracle.

  • I am going to look into getting Nature's Miracle now, but at the moment I'll spray it down with lysol, hose it off, and leave it outside to dry.
