Anyone have a dog with Cushing's disease?
We're taking our 13 yr old dog for blood testing on Friday. We have to leave him there all day:-( If anyone can tell me what your experience has been with treatment, etc. I would really appreciate it--especially how long it took for your dog to start feeling better. Thank you very much!
Re: Anyone have a dog with Cushing's disease?
I'm on my computer now. Initially, my vet treated Tillie with Lysodren and steriods. This was before Triolostane was available. As far as I know Triolostane is the go-to med now. I can't recall the cost off hand because I think it was from having a generic to not. Sorry, its been a few years.
What symptoms does your dog have? When is he getting bloodwork and ultrasound done? Usually both are done to dx if I recall correctly.
Is your vet experienced in treating Cushings? It's hard to ask, but it is important. If your dog does have it and your vet has any difficulty at all getting him stable, please seek out an internal med specialist. We found them to be just a little more expensive, but he got T stable in one visit. After a short time, we were able to transition back to our reg vet using the specialist's protocal.
There used to be a great forum for Cushings, but it has closed. Here is another one with lots of great links and info in it as well. Reach out to them.

Good luck!
His symptoms are extreme fatigue/sleeping all the time, drinking/eating constantly, hair falling out in clumps, stiffness. It came on gradually and we thought it was normal aging (he's somewhere between 13 and 15 yrs). Our vet suspects cushings based on preliminary bloodwork & urinalysis. He has elevated potassium and liver enzymes, and slight hemolysis.
Friday we're taking him in for blood work all day several times to confirm. I'm hoping that it isn't Cushings, but we'll do whatever it takes to help him feel better. Sad that this is happening to him whatever it is. I know that our vet has experience with Cushings, but I plan to get more details on how much and research specialists in the meantime. Thank you so much for your advice. It is much appreciated. Your dogs are so adorable btw:-)
