Question for the moms--labor related

I know this really varies from person to person, but how long was it for you from 9cm dilated to holding your baby? My friend was induced this morning and has been texting updates all day. She texted at 5:15 saying that she was 9.5cm (and that the epi was wonderful haha) and I haven't heard anything since. Again, I know this really varies, but it's all I can think about! How long did you push for? I guess I'm just hoping that since it's been 2 hours that she's already holding her little girl and that they'll update us when they have a minute.

Re: Question for the moms--labor related

  • For me it was like 15 minutes, but yeah... some first time moms push for hours.
    Married in 2008 - DD born in 2010 - EDD 6.15.2012!
  • Cordelia, three pushes and she was out, so just a couple minutes. It took longer to wait for the epi to wear off a bit than the actual pushing.

With Alex, I was pushing for 3 hours before I finally got her out.

  • With Mads it was about an hour and a half..... Lily was much quicker, less than 15 minutes.

Hopefully the baby's here & they're just busy getting her cleaned up, etc & just too busy soaking it all in to text :)

Like..............this girl.  I made it to 9.5 before pushing.  It was 11-something.  I had her at nearly 3AM.

  • I pushed for 2.5 hours and they had to finally use forceps to get him out.
  • I pushed for over 2 hours before I told my doctor to get her out one way or another! 2 pushes later he pulled her out.

  • Since it's been 3 hours since I heard from her, I'm thinking she's been pushing for a while. I'm really hoping to hear something soon because I just want to know that she and the baby are both doing well.

  • She very well could have delivered a while ago. But for me, after the 2.5 hours of pushing, they had to do all of the Landon stuff (APGAR, measurements, tests, washing, etc), and then my BP drastically dropped about 15 mins after delivery, which made everyone's attention shift back to me (had to call anesthesiology back in, give me epi, etc). It was a good 3.5 hours after Anthony told people I was pushing that we told everyone we were both okay.
  • Not sure if this helps or not.  I didn't have a lot of internals, so I didn't know anything until I was 10cm and he was almost crowning.  3 pushes (8 minutes) and he was born.

However, with the exception of our parents, we didn't call/text anybody for a while.  There was the post-delivery stuff for both of us (stitching, apgar, getting him to nurse, bathing him, getting me into those lovely mesh undies) and we waited until we were settled into our post-delivery room to get our call list out of the bag and let everyone know.  He was born at 9:13, and we got around to telling most people around 11:30/12.

That may be the case with them too. I was expecting to hear relatively soon after delivery because they've been texting updates pretty consistenly all day, but they may just be taking their time letting people know. It's been almost 4 hours since I heard anything, which is the longest I've gone without an update all day, so I'm being impatient and trying not to worry.

  • I was one of the lucky ones; only had to push for like 15 minutes.

I'm glad the baby is here and all is well!

  • I pushed for 40 minutes.
