Doula rec and ?

Does anyone have recommendations for doula's?

Also, if a birth turns into a repeat c-section, will doula's be there for that as well?

Re: Doula rec and ?

  • there are a lot of great ones in the des moines area.  jenn and tiff on doulas on this board and are great women!
  • Jenn at Nurture and Bloom (http://nurtureandbloomdoula.weebly.com/)

You may know her here as Jennrs on this board. :-) She was our doula and we loved her. Even though our birth didn't end up to be what we planned, she was super supportive and comforting.

    Awww, gee, thanks! :-)

There are so many fabulous doulas in the Des Moines area. I will be on maternity leave from June '12 to February '13 so chances are I will not be able to attend that birth.

Tiff (mrstice) on this board is great! Also, check out Central Iowa Doulas (CIDA). And, be sure to check out our March 24 event!

  • And, sorry, I totally forgot to answer your 2nd question. It really depends. Some hospitals and surgeons are totally open to having more than one person in the operating room, if that's the case chances are your partner and doula can both be present. However, keep in mind that a lot are very strict with the one person policy. The doula will remain at the hospital while the c-section is being performed and will meet with you and stay with you as soon as you are in your recovery room.

  • ditto Jenn on checking out Central Iowa Doula Association!

my business is mama strength birth services: www.mamastrength.weebly.com  (sorry, are these not showing up clicky?? my computer's being weird)

I have attended several cesarean births - a couple scheduled for breech babes, and a failed induction. Whether a doula in permitted into the OR depends on the OB, anesthesia, and how hard the parents push for it. I have been in the OR for two at Methodist.
Either way, I think it's especially important for a doula to be with parents at a cesarean - recovery can be difficult, and especially if you want to breastfeed right away it's helpful to have those extra hands, knowledge, and emotional support.
