So part 1- I have a friend who asked me to run her first half with her on May 19. This would be my 4th half, and I would jog at her pace, not racing it.
Part 2- my running group (which I LOVE) is the official training group of a local full. half marathon + 10k/ 5K. The founder of our group is one of the people that organizes this local race and the majority of the group is running it. It's on May 20th.
Would it be totally insane to do back to back half marathons? I wouldn't be "racing" either of them, or would that be even less reason to do it? Or do a shorter race, like the 10K on the 20th? Or just volunteer and cheer the group on?
FTR- I run 25-30 miles a week, with a long run of at least 10 miles every weekend, and I usually feel fine after the long runs, occasionally hiking after or going for another run with my dogs later in the day. But I know that's not the same as two halfs.
Re: Is this insane/ a bad idea?
maybe slightly insane. you're talking about running your total weekly mileage over the course of a weekend. I'd probably just do the 10K on the 20th, if you must do both.
but you've got some time between now and May 19th. you could try doing your long run+ a mid distance run every weekend and see how it goes.
If you're not racing either one, I think you'll be fine.
Since they'd be your 4th and 5th halves, it's not like you're a running newb. 25-30mpw is a good base.
ETA: I agree though, slightly insane
I don't find it insane at all. Go for it!!
