Add 1/3 cup IF, a heaping tsp of entitlement, a dash of racism
Re: Add 1/3 cup IF, a heaping tsp of entitlement, a dash of racism
holllllyy shiiiitt. where do these people COME FROM??
I got a little confused at one point when someone asked if it was 2011. I was all, up no, it's not actually. Then I noticed the thread was old. lol. My only excuse is that it's early.
Damnit! I didn't notice that. Oh well the joy I got out of reading that was well out of "porportion" to the sadness, I now feel.
Currently Reading: Don Quixote by Miguel De Cervantes
And I feel like a lot of people were focusing on the wrong thing. Yes, it's heinous that she said mixed race kids will have a disadvantage...
But there are people that seemed to gloss over the fact that she basically said that because her friend's SO is black, he will have other babies floating around out there, a criminal record, sh1ttastic credit, debt, etc. THE F00K?!

Yep, this.
It's kinda like the 'what would you do if your kid said he/she was gay' discussion.
If I'm being honest, I hae to say, I don't want Buffy to be gay. I don't care if she's gay but I know that if she is gay, she'll have to fight some battles that I don't wish on anyone. She'll have to deal w/ grandparents who don't want her to have the legal right to be married, prejudice, higher likelihood of violence and other sorts of hell that come w/ a patriarchal, prejudiced, heteronormative society.
The Mr. and I thought about some of the race issues when we were (and still are, FWIW) thinking about adoption...it's all well and good to say "well, we're OK w/ it and aren't racist" but there's being ready to deal w/ the rest of the world--an that would be hard.
But this crazy racist lady wasn't saying "I don't think friend is read to deal w/ the real-life racism her kid will face (from people like me)", she was saying that it's 'bad' t have non-white kids because of racism. That the dad must fit certain sterotypes because of racism. That because race is linked to poverty and some of it's issus, that race is causative of all of the issues out there that she listed...
*stab stab stab*
I saw that thread in December. What a mess.
100% with GBCK on everything.
