Why FB will never take over the nest.....

Where else could we share about how many kids we think we're going to have, why our MIL's are pains in the ass, or anything that only women can understand?  I don't plan on sharing my tubal ligation to people I don't speak to from high school, but I gladly share it here.  Because even if you don't know me, you get it.

So, still loving my nesties.  Even when we go crazy sometimes.  You're all good kids and I love you all in a very special way.

Re: Why FB will never take over the nest.....

  • I feel the same! I can't imagine leaving. I've learned so much from people here. Even down to the weekend posts of what everyone's doing. I've definitely found stuff to do with E on the fly just from seeing what everyone else has going on. Places to eat, must-have items I don't really need, sales, etiquette, funny kid stories, how to keep my kid in his crib (thanks a million Natalie!) and pulling together in a pinch. Losing the board would rank up there with losing my soaps (and I'm devastated about that!).
  • I totally agree!! Can't post on FB about IUDs, BFing or my SIL!! Lol! I'm sad that the board has slowed down.

  • I'd rather post here.  I am a snob on FB and only add people I know IRL and interact with regularly on my FB. Stick out tongue

I dunno - Private/Closed groups on FB have been my go-to for a lot of mothering/parenting/etc. chat lately.  I was burned on the knot and learned the hard way that these boards are TOTALLY PUBLIC and a lot more people read them than we think.

I can see closed groups having a purpose but I prefer the influx of new and old posters that come here. If you want a totally objective opinion, whether you like the answers or not you're more likely to get it here. People who are close on a closed small circle of friends board may not feel like they could be that honest.

Sure, it's not private here and if you have stalky lurkers you know about or if you're worried about people finding you here I guess it makes sense. But for me personally, I don't really care what people know about me. If I said it here, chances are I have no problem confronting whatever it is in real life. I'm not a private person at all.

    love this post Big SmileYes
  • FB and the Nest serve two completely different purposes for me.  I'm not publicizing on FB that my child spit on her teacher.  I just can't.  I have learned so much from the people here and I just don't get a lot of the new ideas I get here from FB.  my IRL friends are like clones of each other.  There are opinions here that I would never have heard in a million years on FB or IRL.  I'll never leave.

I agree with Tara.  I'm a pretty open book and wear my heart on my sleeve kind of gal, so what I do share isn't information I wouldn't want the world in general to know.  But talking about my personal contraceptive choices, or about how my kid acted like an a-hole, just doesn't make sense to share in the FB world.  It has no context there.

  • I don't really post about my kid on FB in general. I'm fairly certain that would be boring to most of my FB friends. Here, most people are moms very into talking about kid related stuff
  • although i love a good debate.. i just have a hard time listening to some of the crazies. So i jump on a lot less then i used to.
