Personal emails on resumes

I am reviewing a resume for a friend.  Her personal email is something like [her career field] xpert at gmail or [her career field] diva at gmail.  This seems unprofessional to me.  The "expert" or "diva" just turns me off.  I think the email on the resume should be [your name or some variation of your name] at whatever.  Should I make this suggestion to her or am I just being an old lady?  Thanks, Jen

Re: Personal emails on resumes

  • I agree.  Some variant of her name (like firstlast or initial-last, etc) would be the way to go.  She could always have the new email forward to her "diva" email so that she's not constantly checking.
  • Eww. I wouldn't say anything to her, but that is pretty unprofessional.

this. say something. she's asked you to review the resume, she's looking for guidance.

    "What is a week-end?"
  • Unprofessional. I'd advise her to change it.

  • I would definitely mention it to her.  I read an article on yahoo just last week and that was one of the top 5 turnoffs to potential employers (unprofessional email addresses).  You're doing her a favor - she asked for your input, right?

  • Oh wait, I managed to miss the first sentence of your post. DEFINITELY tell her to change it.
  • another vote to change it!

    THIS.

Diva only works if you're applying to be a Mary Kay sales person... and even that's probably an insult to those professionals. Even the xpert thing bugs me. Any kind of intentional misspelling seems beyond unprofessional. It seems juvenile.

  • team old lady.

it's really easy to register and link a gmail account these days.

  • Another vote for changing it. With the ease of setting up an alternate email, and even having it forward to the one you check, there is no reason not to have a simple email address that's just your name on your resume.

not only can she have it autoforward, she can also set up (at least in gmail) the account so that she can reply from her diva account but the mail appears to have come from her professional account. i have several accounts linked in gmail and this is what i do. i have three different professional email accounts all forwarding to my first.last@gmail and whenever i reply to mail sent to one of them, it shows as coming from that applicable professional account.
