I brought Austin to see his great-grandmother today

I was petrified of driving down Route 128 to MA (an hour drive) - I was worried that he'd be screaming the whole way or that there would be too many crazy drivers on the road - I'm fine with crazy drivers if it is just me...but the drive went great both ways...

My grandmother, who is bed-ridden (and in her 90's) and lives with my Aunt was so happy to see Austin - it's been 5-6 months since she last saw him....he's great with strangers, but he took one look at her and started crying, tears and all - LOL!!! I don't know if it was the "nursing home" smell, her wonky hair or the pollops on her vocal cords that give her voice a raspy sound - but he was not having it!! :( Oh well...my Aunt and cousins got to see him and my grandmother did get to see him and I eventually got him to smile at her once he had warmed up to her a little....

  • That sounds like it was a worthwhile trip!  Since I work in a nursing home, I often take Mason in to visit all the ladies.  He definitely acts differently w/ some of them and cries or won't smile.  I haven't figured out what it is that he doesn't like, but he certainly has a preference!!

FWIW, I'm sure she LOVED having you visit anyway, alot of the ladies cherish every minute they have with their grandkids!

  • I'm sorry he didn't react better, but I'm sure gram enjoyed the visit anyway.
  • Well I am glad you made it safe and sound and at least Great Grandma got to see him :-)  I am sure that made her day, even if he was crying, he is just so cute!  How was he in the car for you?
  • Crystal - oh he did great in the car! He played the whole way down there and only started to get fussy as we pulled into my Aunt's driveway and then on the way home, he only cried about 10 minutes before he fell asleep....such a good boy!
  • her wonky hair, LOL!!!  Aww, I'm sorry he wasn't thrilled but I am sure she was ... so nice that you did that for her, Lisa.  =)  I wish my Grammy was here to meet Alyssa.
  • Isn't that always the way...they always cry when you don't want them too!  I am sure she LOVED the visit.  That was very nice of you!  Glad you had a good trip.
  • I think it's great you drove him down for a visit.  I am sure that even if he was crying, she appreciated seeing her great-grandson.  I hope you took pictures of them - it's so rare that a child gets to spend time with a great-grandparent!
