I want to do a get away with DH. We've done SF a few times. It must be within driving distance, nothing too expensive. DH doesn't care for wine. We'd also be traveling with our small dog. Any ideas?
Re: Weekend getaway
Tahoe - you could probably find a cabin rental for a weekend
IUI #1 10/12/11 (Bravelle + HCG + Prometrium & acupuncture) = 10/26 BFP! Beta #1=250, Beta #2= 615. 1st u/s 11/8.
Monterey, Carmel, Capitola, Big Sur...those areas? Or Napa, wine country. Mendocino county. Yosemite.
Lots of fun to be had!
Lighthouse State Beach, Santa Cruz.
Within driving distance could mean a lot of things, and from where?
Personally, I love Santa Cruz for weekend getaways, and the small towns around it (like Aptos and Capitola) are great too. All near the beach, fun for you and the dog. Downtown Santa Cruz is awesome, lots of hiking opportunities, good food, shopping, etc.
We also really like Mendocino, though the weather can be crappy and it's a long drive from where we live (plus, the road is pretty curvy and I tend to get car sick whenever we drive there.)
Yosemite would be fun too - it's beautiful in the winter, though I don't know if there's much snow there right now (which may affect driving conditions).
There's always Monterey/Carmel, Big Sur, Half Moon Bay, and a whole lot of forests and lakes up north
Wherever you go, make sure you research some dog-friendly hotels before you head out. It can be hard to find them, and there's almost always an extra fee.
