Anyone's 3 year old take a school bus to pre-k?

N's going to be taking a school bus to pre-K starting next week.  He's transiting from EI to our town's pre-K program.  I'm just wondering how your child did taking the school bus at 3 yrs old?  We've been potty training him since early Jan. and I'm worried once he get on the bus if he needs to go potty before they get to school.  He won't go on command, because I've been trying to get him to go before we leave the house and he won't.   I'm also worried he's going to freak out when the bus comes to get him and we don't get on the bus with him.

  • P&J do and they a re in the preschool program like your son. I would just make sure you bring him to the bathroom before you go out to the bus. My kids LOVE the bus and point blank told me I am not allowed to drive them to school!

  • Caleb did at 3 (still does). It was rough the first few days. I made MH follow him to make sure he wasnt in full blown hysterics by the time he got to school. B had just been born so it was A LOT for him at once. By the second week he LOVED it! Kept asking "school bus coming?"

He wasnt PT'd at the time so it wasnt an issue but now he is and he's been ok. He doesnt really drink a lot before he gets on the bus since he's up at 6:45 and on the bus by 7:30.

He is the first one on in the morning and the first one off when he comes home. You can always ask that do the route to accommodate his needs and see what they say.

    Good luck!

  • there's a chance Gray & Gibby will be going to our town's preK in the fall and would be on the bus if they do... i have horrible anxiety about it- but i know that's my issue and that tons of 3yos do it ... thankfully it's a short ride :)

as for PT'ing- you could always put him with a pullup on over his underwear for the bus if you worry about accidents- that way he'd stay dry even if he had one.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • Oh and as an aside I had to ASK that he be put in a 5 pt harness. It wasn't something they did automatically. Crazy. So double check!
