So we will be eating all of the costs.....
I think I've lost all faith in vets..... We paid $$$ to ensure this was NOT FIP before committing to a 4 night hospital stay and putting him through all that.
And I went to pay the bill and it was $1000 MORE than we were anticipating... I'm having a sit down in an hour to go through all the charges and have it explained to me.
I'm scared sh1tless that FIP is what killed my other cat in November. I want to adopt another kitten(s), but now I'm scared Chewy carries some freaky coronavirus that mutates in everything we adopt.
I have no idea where to go from here: The overpriced cat specialist who I was convinced killed my cat (he at least made some judgement errors)... the new vet who led us down an expensive pathway in the opposite direction?
Re: Ernie Necropsy final: FIP
I'm sorry. I'm sure it's somewhat of a relief to have an official answer, even if it's not what you were hoping to hear.
I've always recommended my vet, but after Miller's stay this week, and what we're anticipating the cost to be, I would totally give you his name if you want. I think we're looking at hundreds of dollars LESS than I thought we'd be face with. (Even though this is my first experience with pet hospitilization, so I have nothing to compare it to. Other than stories from other people)
I'm so sorry.
How old was your cat that passed away last fall? FIP is very rare in older cats.

I'm so very sorry.
FIP can have false negatives? It seems like there should be some responsibility on the vets because of the FIP and the fact that you tested for it.
Big hugs...
He was 5.

I'd be interested- but I live in Castle Rock?? Where is he located?

The only 100% diagnosis is via necropsy. When she told us the result (negative for FIP) she said fluid analysis isn't 100% certain and we could explore more expensive testing, but that in her opinion it was ruled out.

He's in southeast Denver. It's Aspen Commons Animal Hospital. Dr Robert James. (303-368-4171) He tends to take a more simplistic/holistic approach to things, rather than throwing every test & drug known to man at the animal. I think this whole time he's had Miller, the only drugs he's given him have been prednisone & an antibiotic. (Which I'm happy with.)

I'm sorry, Thai died from very similar circumstances, he was a bit older and tested negative for FIP. Don't really know how he died. I switched vets and met the most wonderful vet ever. When Luna got sick, she was a rock and she told me when it was time to let go.
She is not that far from CR.

Dr. Downie, she is awesome.
