When should we start packing?

So after almost 1 year on the market, we finally have received an offer and are under contract with a closing date of March 20th. The seller is not getting an inspection on our place. Should I start boxing things up now or wait? We are moving about 2 hours away from our current location but don't have a place yet so everything is going into storage.

Re: When should we start packing?

  • My realtor told me that the time to pack is once all contingencies have been lifted.  Of course, if you start sorting out what you need with what you won't need for months (less used kitchen stuff, fall/deep winter clothing), you can get a jumpstart on stuff without disrupting your day to day life.
  • Start with things now, like out of season clothing/shoes. Odds and ends in the kitchen and garage. And toys/books.

I wouldn't box everything up just yet, since sometimes home sales do fall through at the 11th hour, but as the closing date gets closer you can start to get more aggressive with packing.
